Daniel D. Tompkins, a Scarsdale resident, was Governor of New York from 1807-1817. From 1817 to 1825, he served as Vice President of the United States under President James Monroe. This letter was from Governor Tompkins commissioning Constant Shearman as Ensign in the 2nd Infantry Regiment.
