Description
Herman Merkel and Gilmore Clarke, landscape engineers for the Bronx
Parkway Commission, were active in the Boy Scouts and helped secure
the use of a building for the scouts in 1916. Clarke served as the
troop’s scoutmaster. The BPC erected a simple shack for the
scouts in 1917. In 1920, the Boy Scouts received permission to build
a log cabin in Yonkers. Location of photograph: Yonkers –
